Dubai might be the best city in the world for outdoor family photography. Within a 30-minute drive you can choose between golden beaches, desert dunes, heritage lanes, green parks, and a skyline unlike anywhere else on earth. But "best location" is personal — the right spot for a family with a running toddler is different from the right spot for three generations or a couple with teenagers. As a family photographer in Dubai, these are the seven locations I recommend most, who each one suits, and exactly when to shoot them.


JBR Beach & The Walk

The classic choice, and for good reason. Soft sand, open sea views, and a playful, holiday energy that helps children forget the camera within minutes. JBR suits families with young kids who love to run, splash, and dig — the session becomes a beach day that happens to be photographed.

Best time: the final hour before sunset, when the light turns golden and the daytime crowds thin near the water's edge.

Style tip: barefoot, relaxed, light fabrics — this is the location where flowing dresses and rolled-up linen trousers belong.

Practical note: paid parking fills up on winter weekends; a weekday session is noticeably calmer.


Al Seef & Dubai Creek

My personal favourite, and Dubai's most underrated family location. Traditional wind-tower architecture, wooden abras crossing the creek, warm stone textures, and lantern-lit lanes as evening falls. Al Seef gives you photographs that feel classic rather than trendy — images that will look just as good in twenty years. It's also largely shaded, which extends the comfortable shooting window beyond pure golden hour.

Best time: late afternoon flowing into early evening, when the lanterns come on along the waterfront.

The Desert

Nothing says Dubai like golden dunes at sunset. Desert family sessions feel like an adventure for kids — climbing dunes, sliding down, throwing sand in the air — and produce dramatic, editorial images no city backdrop can match. The scale of the landscape makes even simple walking shots look cinematic.

Best time: the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, or sunrise for cooler months and softer colours.

Practical notes: I arrange the timing and logistics so you simply arrive and enjoy; bring water and a light layer, as the desert cools quickly after the sun drops.

Zabeel Park

Lush lawns, mature trees, and views of the Dubai Frame rising behind the greenery. Zabeel is the relaxed option: picnic-style sessions, bubbles and balls for the little ones, and plenty of space for toddlers who need to roam between frames. It's also one of the most comfortable locations for grandparents, with easy paths and shade.

Best time: the first hour after the park opens in the morning — quiet, softly lit, and cool.

Entry: small ticket fee per person; weekday mornings are nearly empty.


Jumeirah Corniche

A long, open waterfront promenade with sea on one side and the city on the other. The Corniche is the variety location: within one session we can capture beach frames, boardwalk walking shots, and skyline backdrops without ever getting in the car. The wide, flat promenade also makes it one of the easiest locations for prams and grandparents.

Best time: golden hour, with the light coming off the water.

Who it suits: families who can't choose between beach and city — you get both.


Dubai Marina

For families who love the modern city look: yachts, glass towers, and waterfront promenades that light up beautifully as evening arrives. Marina sessions have a polished, cosmopolitan feel and suit smart-casual styling. Teenagers, in my experience, consistently prefer this backdrop to the beach.

Best time: the 30 minutes before sunset through blue hour, as the tower lights come on.

Style tip: this is the one location where slightly dressier outfits — collared shirts, structured dresses — outperform beachwear.


Al Barsha Pond Park

The hidden gem on this list. A calm lake loop, green lawns, resident ducks the kids can watch, and a fraction of the foot traffic of the famous spots. If your priority is an unhurried session where a baby can nap in the pram between frames and nobody walks through the background, this is the place.

Best time: morning golden hour. Who it suits: families with babies, sensory-sensitive children, and anyone who values calm over iconic backdrops.


When Is Outdoor Photography Season in Dubai?

October through April is prime time: comfortable temperatures, clear skies, and spectacular golden hours. December to February offer the coolest, most flexible conditions — and correspondingly busy booking calendars, so reserve 6–8 weeks ahead for those months. How to Choose Between These Locations

Three questions settle it almost every time. First, what are your children's ages? Under-fives thrive where they can move freely (beach, parks, desert); older kids handle structured locations easily. Second, what's the end use? Wall prints favour the timeless backdrops of Al Seef and the desert; social-media sets suit the Marina's variety. Third, what does your family actually enjoy doing together? The best photos come from families genuinely having fun, so choose the place that sounds like a good afternoon even without a camera.
